Please note that this list of resources is not in any way meant to be complete, the resources are those I have found over the years. The resources I have found to be useful may not be as useful to you. They are, however, a starting point for the extrusion information you are trying to find. The list here will start out with a small number of (relatively) easy to find resources, but may expand to be a more comprehensive list, but with the documents being much tougher to locate. Breakfast
Cereals and How They are Made, 2nd Edition
This book
has some basic information about extrusion, especially as it applies
to breakfast cereals.
Extrusion
Cooking
A good general text on cooking
extrusion. It hits most of the major subjects.
Pasta
and Noodle Technology
This is a good book on extruded pasta
with limited information on other pasta processes.
Extruders
in Food Applications
This is a good book on extruded
products. It does cover the concept of Specific Mechanical
Energy fairly well.
Other Books:
Transport
Processes and Separation Process Principles, 4th Edition
This
book is a good engineering reference for a variety of unit
operations. It does not mention extrusion, but covers
engineering subjects involved in extrusion.
Food Process Engineering by Dennis R. Heldman and R. Paul
Singh
A good text on Food Engineering. It does
not mention extrusion, but covers engineering subjects involved in
extrusion.
Professional Organizations:
AACC
International
This is an organization that is focused on
grain-based products.
American
Feed Industry Association
This is an industry group that
deals with all aspects of the feed industry. Extrusion is used
in pet food manufacturing, fish food manufacturing, and some other
specialized applications in the feed industry.
American
Institute of Chemical Engineers
This is a Chemical
Engineering professional organization. The focus is on
chemical processes, part of which includes foods.
American
Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers
This is an
organization that is focused on Agricultural Engineering, which
includes some food processing.
Institute of
Food Technologists
This is an organization that deals with
all types of food technology.
